I was working on the lesson plan last week for Early American History and came across Benjamin Franklin & decided to pay tribute to him!

Who was Benjamin Franklin?

  • Known as the 1st American
  • Most important Founding Father of the United States of America
  • Avid reader
  • Newspaper Publisher of the Pennsylvania Gazette
  • Prominent voice in Pennsylvania politics
  • inventor
  • He spoke out against the Stamp Act of 1965.
  • Poor Richard’s Almanak
    Under the psuedonym (fake name) of “Richard Saunder’s” he published a yearly pamphlet titled, “Poor Richard’s Almanak”. He was very successful with this publication. He published 10,000 a year for 25 years.
    This publication contained: poems, a calendar, interesting sayings, weather predictions,
    & scientific information.

    His Firsts
    In 1785 he participated in the Constitution Convention
    The only Founding Father to sign the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Alliance with France,
    The Treaty of Paris,and the Constitution.

    Some Fun Facts
    He loved playing chess.
    As a teenager under the psuedonym name of “Silence Dogood” he had several letters published in his brother’s newspaper.
